ALGO/HBAR ratio rotation · real daily data

Swap out when ALGO is pricey. Swap back when it's cheap.

Your friend's rule: when one ALGO buys 1.40 HBAR, swap everything into HBAR. When it only buys 1.28, swap back. First, where the ratio sits right now. Then the rule replayed day by day on the real numbers from your CSV: watch the coins move and count the ALGO at the end.

The trick with 10 coins

Nobody hands you free coins. You just swap at the right moments.

1 · ALGO gets pricey

ratio 1.40 ↓ swap

You have 10 ALGO coins. Each one now buys 1.40 HBAR, so you swap them all.

10 × 1.40 = 14 HBAR

2 · Wait

1.40 → 1.36 → 1.31 → 1.28

Hold the HBAR. Prices going up or down doesn't matter. You only watch the ratio slide back toward normal.

3 · ALGO gets cheap again

ratio 1.28 ↓ swap back

Each ALGO now costs only 1.28 HBAR, so your 14 HBAR buys more ALGO than you sold.

14 ÷ 1.28 = 10.9 ALGO

The catches

The rule works while the ratio keeps bouncing between about 1.2 and 1.4. Three ways it can go wrong.

The 1.2 "home" is only six months old

From March 2025 to March 2026 the ratio lived around 1.0. The rule sat still for a year, apart from one flash-crash spike on 10 Oct 2025.

If the ratio climbs and stays up, you're stuck

Holding HBAR while the ratio goes to 1.50 or higher means fewer ALGO than you started with. You either wait or take the loss.

More ALGO isn't more money

The rule counts coins, not dollars. Watch the "In dollars" box during the replay: the ALGO count climbs while the dollar value can still fall, because both coins dropped.

What the backtest says

The ratio's "normal" level keeps moving, so we also tested lines that move with it. Each multiple counts the ALGO you'd end with: ×1.90 means 1,000,000 ALGO became 1,900,000. Binance hourly closes, 0.2% charged per swap. Past prices only.

Longer run · Jan 2024 to now

Close race, very different rides. The median settings were picked using data up to Jun 2025, so this window isn't fully unseen.

His 1.40 / 1.28×4.32The window opens with the ratio at 2.6, so the first trip alone made +109%. Also includes one 239-day wait, sitting at −40% on paper at the worst point.

Why fixed lines go stale

Median of the hourly ratio, year by year (2019 starts in late September, 2026 runs to mid-October). The dashed line is his 1.40. Before 2025 the ratio spent most of its time far above it.
